Do It Your Self Help vs. God's Help

You can plan which way to go, but you can also ask for directions: Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” The do it yourself approach to life includes some useful lessons, but the Bible says you don’t have to do it all yourself. Here's an Overview of Self-Help vs. God's Help: Self-help teaches how to change your thoughts and actions based on the wisdom of man. The Bible offers wisdom from God, who invites you to reason with Him and trust His guidance. Self-help teaches how to create mental habits by repeating positive affirmations. But, the results depend on your ability to do it yourself. Prayer can be a type of affirmation. The difference is you talk to God, not to yourself. God offers to renew your mind, guide your thoughts, and support you. Self-help says your choices can be managed through awareness, and reworking your thoughts. It’s a process that depends on you to control your mind. In the Bible, it says says the Spi...

That question lies at the heart of Door of the Gentiles, a compelling faith-based book by Rick Smith that includes mystery, suspense, murder, and a little romance. An ancient bronze scroll, etched with Greek text and strange Christian symbols is discovered in a forgotten tomb. Self Help, Universal Energy, The Power of God

Some variations of self-help include a universal energy that can be harnessed to shape your life. The idea is that you can tap into an energy flow in the universe to attract good things, or tune into a frequency that aligns with the vibrations of a beneficial force.     The Bible says that God is a living Spirit with the power to create and sustain all life.  Job 33:4 says , "The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life." There is a vast difference between God's ability compared to self-help efforts. God is more capable than you can imagine. Whatever is impossible for man, is possible for God.  Isaiah 55:8-9 says , "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." The Bible says God has unlimited power and understanding of all things. Scripture says that He spoke the universe ...

Bible Prophecy Mystery Fiction Book

Image
Door of the Gentiles is a fictional mystery book that explores two theories about Bible prophecy. The first mystery is the 70th week of Daniel, and the second mystery is the fullness of the Gentiles in the book of Romans. Theory of 70 Weeks Fulfilled: In the Old Testament book of Daniel, the angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel with a message about seventy sevens, also known as 70 weeks, which is 490 years. The prophecy gives a mysterious timeline for the destiny of Jerusalem and the future of God’s people. The theory in the mystery book, suggests the 490 year timeline in the book of Daniel may have started at the decree from the Persian King Artaxerxes in 457 BC to rebuild Jerusalem, and then continued until the time of Jesus Christ. The Bible prophecy in Daniel says an anointed one will be cut off “after” 7 and 62 weeks. If Jesus is this anointed one, His death would have been during the 70th week, which means that final week, or 7 year time period, has already passed. If this is true, t...

Looking for Self Improvement in the Bible?

Millions of self improvement books are sold every year, and some of those books may offer good advice, but the Bible says something different. So I wrote a short guide to highlight the difference. It’s called Self Help or God’s Book. Here’s an overview of the main points: Let Us Reason Together Many self improvement books teach you to master your mind and rely on your own effort to change your thoughts. The hard part is mastering your mind, and relying on yourself. Instead of depending on yourself, the Bible offers wisdom from God, who invites you to reason with Him and trust His guidance above your own understanding. The Spirit and The Light Some versions of self improvement teach about a universal force that can shape your life. The idea is that you can tap into an energy flow to attract good things. In the Bible, it says God is a living Spirit who creates and sustains all life, and He knows you personally. God is active, and intelligent, not just an energy source. Renewing ...
